Lockwood Primary School

Our School Day

Lockwood Primary School is open from 8.40am until 3.10pm, not including our wraparound care provision.  This gives us a total opening time for pupils of 32.5 hours per week.

Arriving at School

Pupils should arrive at school between 8.30am and 8.40am, when pupils will be greeted on the playground by their teacher.  Pupils should line up in their classes and parents can leave unless they have a message for the teacher.

Whilst staff will always be willing to chat to parents on a morning, they may make arrangements to discuss some issues later in the day as their priority will be escorting the children into class.

We ask that parents do not permit the children to use the playground equipment before or after school and that no balls are brought to school.  We also ask that children dismount from their bicycles and scooters when they enter the school site.  The safety of our families, pupils and staff is our prime concern.

Breakfast Club

We operate a free breakfast club for all pupils from Reception to Year 6 from 8.10am.  Pupils should enter via the school office and any messages for teachers can be left with breakfast club staff.  Children can then enjoy a healthy breakfast and some time to socialise with their friends before school.  Food is served until 8.30am and children will be taken to their classrooms at 8.40am ready to start the day.

For those parents who require earlier childcare, we have a paid breakfast club from 7.45am at a cost of £2 per day.

If you arrive late

If you arrive after the class have gone into school and the doors are shut, please make your way around to the school office.  The children will be taken striaght down to their classrooms and their attendance recorded on the register.  Children often worry about arriving at school late, so please do your best to make sure they are on the playground by 8.40am.

Our registers close at 9.10am.  Pupils arriving after this time will still be admitted via the school office however, in accordance with the Department for Education's regulations, this will be recorded as an unauthorised absence.

If at all possible, parents or carers who are running late should try and contact the school office to let us know.

A typical day

The end of the day

Children will be ready to leave school at 3.10pm.  All children will be escorted to their allocated exit by a member of staff and only allowed to leave once we are aware that an adult is present to collect them.  The school office has a record of which adults are permitted to collect each child.  If you need to make changes to this either occasionally or on a more permanent basis, please let Miss Langley in the office know.  Children will not be passed into the care of an adult unless we have been informed and we may have to contact you to confirm this arrangement, delaying your child going home.  We ask that wherever possible, all children are collected by someone over the age of 16.

Walking home

Children in Year 5 and Year 6 are permitted to walk home unaccompanied when we have written permission from a parent and carer to do so.  Please let your child know that they can always return to the school site for help if they need to while walking home, for example if they feel unsafe or if no one is in at home.

Afterschool Clubs

We offer parents requiring childcare after 3.10pm the option of an afterschool club.  The children take part in a range of activities from art and craft and cooking to yoga and gardening.  Afterschool club is offered until 4.00pm at a cost of £3.00 per day and until 5.00pm at a cost of £6.00 per day.  Afterschool club is available to children from Reception to Year 6.

We also offer enrichment clubs after school for all pupils at times throughout the year - these clubs include music and songwriting, dance, football, art and DT.

Absence

If your child is ill please contact the school office (01287 650238) to let us know the reason for absence and possible duration. We can then authorise the absence. School operate a ‘every day call’ policy whereby if your child is absent and we have not heard from you, the office will phone you to find out the reason for absence.  For longer term absences we will arrange to make a welfare call regularly so we can keep in touch.

For more information, our Attendance Policy is available here.

For NHS guidance on whether your child can still go to school when poorly, please click the box below.  You can also telephone the school office for advice.

If your child has an appointment during the school day you will need to sign them out at the school office when you collect them. Pupils should return to school after their appointment where possible.

School are unable to authorise holidays due to Department for Education Legislation.
