Public Sector Equality Duty
We welcome our duties under the Equality Act 2010 to:
- Eliminate discrimination, harassment, victimisation and any other conduct that is prohibited under the Act.
- Advance equality of opportunity between persons who share a relevant protected characteristic and persons who do not share it;
- Foster good relations between persons who share a relevant protected characteristic and persons who do not share it
As part of our public sector equality duty, we formulate, review and publish our school's Equality and Diversity Policy and our Equality Objectives - sharing them with all those connected to our school - in order to ensure that our mission is clear and communicated to all. Our Equality and Diversity Policy together with our Equality Objectives can be downloaded from our Policies page, below:
Teaching children about equalities, rights and difference is important to us at Lockwood Primary School. Our PSHE curriculum, including Relationships and Sex Education, is a key in delivering this. For more information, please visit our PSHE page below:
Pupil Premium
All primary schools in the UK receive an allocation of additional funds called the Pupil Premium Grant (PPG). It is designed to help disadvantaged pupils of all abilities perform better, and close the gap between them and their peers. Funding is provided for pupils of all ages who are entitled to free school meals, are looked after by the Local Authority or are the children of members of the armed forces.
In deciding how to make best use of the additional funds our school receives through the PPG we analyse the barriers to learning that these children may be facing. These barriers may be associated with an unsettled home life, upset and disruption caused by loss or trauma, lower levels of language and literacy skills or a lack of enriching activities outside of the school day, among many others. Once the barriers to learning have been identified, the school works hard to ensure that support is provided to help pupils overcome these.
The school allocates is Pupil Premium Grant in many different ways including:
- Provision of additional teaching and support staff,
- Making trips and visits more affordable for low income families,
- Subsidising the cost for pupils attending breakfast club.
- Staff training to deliver bespoke interventions
- Provision of music tutition
As pupils move through our school it is important that we plan our PPG spending carefully and that we fully assess the impact of our decisions each year. Below, you can find out details of how we plan to spend our Pupil Premium Grant for this academic year and the impact of our spending in previous years.
Remote Education
Where children have no alternative but to remain at home and are unable to attend school, Lockwood Primary School will endeavour to minimise the impact on the children's learning through the provision of remote learning. The school will work alongside parents and carers to provide remote education that is high quality, meaningful, ambitious, and cover an appropriate range of subjects to enable pupils to keep on track with their education.
Where pupils have access to appropriate devices, remote education will include direct teaching (either live or recorded) and live pastoral support. The nature of remote eduation will, of course, depend on the age and stage of the child's education. The details of our remote education offer are available on our Remote Education Page below:
School Opening Hours
For children in Reception to Year 6, school starts at 8.40am and finishes at 3.10pm. This is a total of 6 hours 30 minutes a day or 32 hours 30 minutes a week.
You can find more information about our school day on the page below:
